    I am not sure if the Milk Carton book you mentioned is the one that inspired me back in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s to try to build a hydrometer with one and a long human hair, but it might have been. I don’t think I ever got it to really work. The ceramic figure we had with the fur that turned blue or pink was a better all around indicator of relative humidity.
